28.9.1 Particolarità in frasi negative

Nel capitolo precedente abbiamo visto che little e few si utilizzano soprattutto in frasi affermative. In frase negative si usano piuttosto much e many. Nella lingua parlata si preferiscono queste costruzioni.

= They did not say much.
= They hardly said anything.
Few people like thunderstorms.
= Not many people like thunderstorms.
= Hardly anybody likes thunderstorms.
There were only a few apples in the basket.
= There were not many apples in the basket.
= There was hardly any apple in the basket.
